About Bridget
In 2008 Bridget Coaker went along to a Pilates class with a friend to find out what all the fuss was about and became instantly hooked. Having suffered from lower back pain for most of her adult life, often exacerbated by gardening, shopping and DIY she quickly discovered that Pilates could help her.
She has practised Pilates ever since.
Pilates is for everyone, but Bridget is acutely aware of how Pilates can help the older person, especially those who are losing their mobility through stiffening joints and crumbling bones. Bridget watched as her Mother, who suffered from osteoporosis, became increasingly bent with broken vertebrae and determined to teach Pilates and encourage people, however young or old, to take up this weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening exercise regime.
Before qualifying as a Body Control Pilates teacher, Bridget was a senior Picture Editor on the Guardian and Observer newspaper and continues to work with photographers and art organisations, providing mentoring and PR support for their events.
When she isn’t teaching Bridget likes to sing and is currently a member of two chamber choirs in London. In between her teaching and singing Bridget is running the River Thames from the Thames Barrier to its source at Lechlade in 10K sections once a month. She hopes to finish the 200 mile journey in 2022, Covid19 permitting.
